Treat the warranty as part of the quoted battery package
An electric forklift battery warranty is not a general statement about every truck in a product range. Before an order is released, the buyer should ask for the written terms that apply to the proposed truck, battery, charger and destination. This helps the buying team compare what a supplier is actually offering rather than assuming that a battery chemistry, a product image or a headline warranty period answers every commercial question.
This checklist is for organising a procurement review. It does not interpret a contract, establish whether a claim will be accepted, prove a battery condition, replace the supplied manuals or give legal, electrical, maintenance or safety advice. The agreed documents, actual equipment, applicable law and responsible qualified people determine those matters.
Identify the exact equipment and document version
Start with the configuration that will appear in the quotation or order. Ask the supplier to identify the truck model, battery type, battery identification where available, charger, relevant connectors and any battery-management or communication components that are part of the proposed package. Keep this record beside the quotation, not only in email correspondence.
A warranty document should also be identifiable. Record its title, version or issue date, language, the supplier entity issuing it and whether any local dealer, importer or service party is named. If a term is described as standard, ask which specific written document defines it for the order. Do not assume that a brochure, sales message or warranty for a different market controls the proposed transaction.
| Record to retain | Why it matters to the buyer review |
|---|---|
| Quoted truck and battery configuration | Connects the terms to the intended equipment rather than a broad model family |
| Battery and charger identification | Shows which components the written terms are said to cover |
| Warranty document version | Makes later comparison and clarification traceable |
| Issuing supplier and contact route | Clarifies who is being asked to explain the terms |
| Destination and delivery arrangement | Keeps market and transaction questions visible |
| Open-points register | Prevents missing information from becoming an assumption |
For the broader battery, charger and site-information record, use our electric forklift charger compatibility checklist. The final order should still state the actual package and any unresolved points.
Read the scope before comparing the duration
A stated duration is only one part of a warranty comparison. Ask what the written terms say about the components included, excluded or handled under separate terms. A battery pack, charger, cable, connector, battery-management hardware, installation work and service labour may not be described in the same way. The buyer should not fill in missing scope from a generic description.
Use the supplier's own terms to create a plain comparison record. Where wording is unclear, request a written explanation that refers to the proposed configuration and order. Avoid asking the supplier for a verbal assurance that is not reflected in the documents.
| Scope question | What to request in writing |
|---|---|
| Covered item | Which battery-related component or assembly the term addresses |
| Exclusions | Conditions, components, work or costs that the supplier says are outside the term |
| Start point | The event from which the stated period is measured, if the document defines one |
| Remedy description | The supplier's stated process or commercial remedy, without assuming a result |
| Labour, travel and freight | Whether these are addressed separately, included, excluded or still open |
| Transfer or resale | Whether the terms discuss a change of owner, dealer or end user |
| Local service role | Which party receives a request and what responsibilities remain with the buyer |
Do not turn this table into a prediction of service availability, claim acceptance, repair time or operating cost. It is a way to show which answers are documented and which still need clarification.
Separate use conditions from a diagnosis
Written terms may refer to charging, inspection, storage, maintenance, operation or record-keeping conditions. A buyer should ask the supplier to identify the applicable manuals and to explain which documents govern the proposed equipment. That is different from trying to diagnose a battery issue, decide whether a condition has been met, or create an alternative maintenance procedure.
Keep the delivered equipment instructions and the purchaser's maintenance records with the battery file. If the intended duty cycle, charging location or operating environment is still being discussed, mark it as an open point before order release. Our electric forklift multi-shift planning guide can help the buyer document the proposed working pattern, while the lithium forklift battery care guide explains why delivered-equipment instructions should remain the basis for day-to-day care.
The site team remains responsible for its own electrical work, charging arrangements, workplace controls and record retention. A warranty discussion does not approve an installation, confirm a site is suitable or replace the supplied instructions and qualified advice.
Define the evidence path for a future question
Before purchasing, ask how a future battery-related enquiry should be opened and what information the supplier expects. The answer may depend on the commercial arrangement and destination, so write down the route rather than assuming a local response channel. The purpose is to preserve traceability, not to impose a supplier's service method.
A buyer-side file may include the final quotation and order, equipment identification after delivery, relevant warranty document, commissioning or handover records where supplied, charge and maintenance records maintained under the applicable instructions, correspondence and any supplier case reference. Keep original records and distinguish an observation from a technical conclusion.
For distributor orders, align the claim-contact discussion with the planned local support model using our electric forklift spare-parts checklist for distributors. Do not present an initial-parts plan as proof that local battery support, replacement stock or a particular remedy is included.
Compare proposals against the same questions
If several suppliers are quoting, give each one the same battery-warranty questions. Compare the written scope and responsibilities before treating a difference in headline duration as a decisive difference. A longer-looking term can still be difficult to compare if it refers to a different battery package, start point, service arrangement or excluded-cost discussion.
Keep the warranty review connected to, but separate from, the truck specification, battery-and-charger compatibility record, commercial quotation and delivery terms. If the buyer changes the battery, charger, destination, service model or ownership arrangement, reopen the affected questions. The electric forklift quote comparison checklist offers a practical structure for documenting proposals on the same application basis.
Electric forklift battery warranty checklist before ordering
Before approving an electric forklift order, confirm that:
- the proposed truck, battery, charger and relevant components are identified in the quotation or attached configuration record;
- the buyer has the current written warranty terms or a clear record of where they will be incorporated into the order;
- covered items, exclusions, stated period, start point and remedy description are read as separate questions;
- labour, travel, freight, local service and any other cost responsibilities are marked as documented, excluded or still open;
- the applicable manuals and record-keeping expectations are identified without treating this checklist as a maintenance procedure;
- the supplier has provided a written route for future enquiries and the buyer has recorded its own responsible contacts;
- any change to the battery package, charger, destination or commercial arrangement triggers a renewed review; and
- unresolved contract, consumer, import, electrical, safety and local-service questions are reviewed with the appropriate qualified parties.
A configuration-specific warranty record helps an electric forklift buyer compare commercial terms with more confidence without promising a particular battery life, claim outcome, service response or operating result.
